Acting editor-in-Chief, Michelle Marquez

Meet our Acting editor-in-Chief, Michelle Marquez
My experience with community service began in high school when I joined the outreach program of our school. We taught the indigenous people of Davao Oriental, how to write in Roman alphabet and basic math. In UP, I continued with community work, where I spent most of my school breaks in remote areas of the country.
I am drawn to people who are socially conscious because they are more amiable and positive. They are solution-focused, open-minded and they promote community spirit. Often they are the first ones to react on matters that affect human dignity.
I was brought up in a family where free speech is fostered at an early age and where I was encouraged to recite lines from The Rights of a Child. My voice is as important as my father’s.
In ENFiD, I found that same kinship.
I am honored to join ENFiD as a member of the Board of Directors and as a new member of the Newsletter team. I have written mostly academic and legal papers. My first contribution to the Newsletter was a comic strip. Yes!
I welcome diversity of ideas. I am not a fan of any political parties. I thought gender inequality would die before my grandmother but it is still alive. I work in a multi-national corporation and, being the only Filipina / Asian among 200 employees, I have learned to be assertive but not aggressive.
Prague, my adopted home, is a city for intellectuals, athletes and artists. Living in this instagramable paradise inspired me to try my hand on painting. Travel is my passion and continuous learning is a part of life.

However, ideas and creativity will go to waste if efficiency in performance is sacrificed. So, I try hard to strike a balance and enjoy life in the process. After all, Life is what you make it.
